Know what to
automate first.

An automation review should turn a vague idea into a practical decision: which process is worth improving, what would change and what needs checking before a build.

Map the current task

Record the trigger, steps, people, tools and output. Include the awkward cases as well as the tidy version. A process that looks simple on paper may depend on judgement that is hard to automate.

Estimate the opportunity

Measure frequency and handling time over a representative period. Separate routine cases from exceptions and include the review time that would remain. Use a range where the data is uncertain.

Compare the next steps

Consider a simpler process, an existing software feature, a rules-based workflow or an AI-assisted step. The cheapest useful change may be something other than a custom build.

What to bring

A sample of the task with private details removed, your software list and an estimate of weekly volume. Detailed discovery and any implementation should have an agreed scope; the enquiry is the starting point.
